One of the Greatest Events in the History of Time is the Day of Pentecost—the descent of the life giving Holy Spirit upon the Church.

The reason that Pentecost is so important to the church is that the Spirit of Christ is life and power to the spiritual man.

• Zech 4:6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.

The literal meaning of Pentecost is “50 days.”In the Old Testament it was positioned on the Jewish calendar seven weeks after the Passover. It was the Jewish Feast of Harvest and was equivalent to our Thanksgiving Day. IT WAS A TIME TO CELEBRATE! The high point of the celebration was the bringing of two loaves of bread, made from the newly harvested wheat, which symbolized the dedication of the harvest to God.

On the Christian calendar, Pentecost occurs 7 weeks after Easter. That’s because the first Pentecost occurred 50 days after the ascension.It was on that day that the Holy Ghost was poured out upon the 120 believers in an upper room in Jerusalem as they awaited the baptism. As we rejoice at what happened on Pentecost many years ago, we see that God is still changing lives and giving life to our dead routines.
