This message was originally preached on 4-4-10 while I was pastor at Adrian United in Adrian Michigan. The methodology of this series was to take six old cherished songs and break the songs down line by line and correlate the lines of the songs with scripture.

In 1899 after entering a house of a demon possessed family during an ole fashioned camp meeting, Lewis E. Jones penned the words to the heart wrenching song, “There Is Power in the Blood.” While there was a lot of evil and confusion taking place, Jones began to sing “There Is Power in the Blood.” The demon promptly left the family and entered the dog lying in the doorway where he abruptly died. THE COURSE

There is pow’r, pow’r, wonder-working pow’r, In the blood of the Lamb;
There is pow’r, pow’r, wonder-working pow’r, In the precious blood of the Lamb.

POWERFUL BENEFITS OF THE SHED BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST

REDEMPTION: By his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtainedeternal redemption for us. (Heb 9:12)
JUSTIFICATION: Much more then, being nowjustified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. (Romans 5:9)
PURCHASED: The church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. (Acts 20:28)
ATONEMENT: We also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. (Romans 5:11)
PEACE: And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. (Col 1:20-22)
SANCTIFICATION: Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. (Hebrews 13:12)
SALVATION: Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. (Romans 5:9)
BOLDNESS: Having therefore, brethren,boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20. By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; (Hebrews 10:19)

VERSE #1

WOULD YOU BE FREE FROM THE BURDEN OF SIN?

There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;
And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. (Hebrews 9:22)
REMISSION denotes a release, wiping out, cancellation, or dismissal. At baptism, God releases, wipes out, cancels, and dismisses our sins.

WOULD YOU O’ER EVIL A VICTORY WIN? 

There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. (Revelation 12:11)

VERSE #2

WOULD YOU BE FREE FROM YOUR PASSION AND PRIDE?

There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;
How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God,purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (Hebrews 9:14)

COME FOR A CLEANSING TO CALVARY’S TIDE; 

There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christhis Son cleanseth us from all sin. (1 John 1:7)

VERSE #3

WOULD YOU BE WHITER, MUCH WHITER THAN SNOW? 

There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;
And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. (Revelation 7:14)

SIN-STAINS ARE LOST IN ITS LIFE-GIVING FLOW; 

There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15. And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. (Col 2:14-15)

VERSE #4

WOULD YOU DO SERVICE FOR JESUS YOUR KING? 

There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. (Matthew 16:24)

WOULD YOU LIVE DAILY HIS PRAISES TO SING?

There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10.That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11. And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.(Phil 2:8-11)

#1) THORNS IN CHRIST’S HEAD (John 19:2) –The Blood covers your thoughts

#2) NAILS IN HIS HANDS (John 20:25) – The Blood covers your deeds

#3) STRIPS ON HIS BACK (Isaiah 53:5) – The Blood covers your burdens and sickness

#4) SWORD THRUST IN HIS SIDE (John 19:34) – The Blood flows as rivers of salvation
