TANKS AND COMMANDERS

You will start this team and trust building exercise by splitting the group into groups of two. Students’ pair up and decide who will be a “TANK” and who will be a “COMMANDER.” The “TANK” puts on a blindfold. The “COMMANDER” stays with the “TANK” but only gives verbal directions so the “TANK” can find the sock boppers scattered around the play area. When a “TANK” finds a ball it must toss (not throw) it (with their non-dominant hand) to hit and destroy another blindfolded “TANK.”

A “TANK” that is hit reverses roles with its commander.

“COMMANDERS” can protect their “TANK” by knocking down incoming socks. But they may never touch their “TANK”.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

  • Blind Folds
  • Soft Throwing Objects (Soft balls, Sock Boppers: Socks stuffed inside of socks, or water balloons).
  • An Obstacle Course (This can be anything that adds a level of difficulty for your playing area: Chairs, tables, etc.)

DEVOTION

Ephesians 6:12 (NIV) – “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

1) SPIRITUAL WARFARE

The game’s concept of tanks and commanders facing off against each other mirrors the spiritual battles we face daily. The Bible reminds us that our true enemies are not physical, but spiritual. We must arm ourselves with prayer, scripture, and faith to combat the challenges that come our way.

2) TEAMWORK

Just as in this game where commanders guide their tanks, in life, we need support and guidance from others. We’re not meant to navigate challenges alone. We can rely on our friends, family, and faith community to help us navigate life’s obstacles.

3) TRUST AND OBEDIENCE

The blindfolded tanks must trust their commanders’ directions implicitly to succeed. Similarly, in our walk with God, we’re called to trust and obey His guidance, even when we can’t see the path ahead clearly. Trusting in God’s plan leads to victory, just as trusting in the commander’s guidance leads to success in the game.
