One, two, three, four, I declare a thumb war. Five, six, seven, eight, try to keep your thumb straight. Next youth group meeting try an old classic. Youth Ministry legend Johnathan Nazarian recently resurrected this old classic by hosting a “Thumb War” tournament. He had two girls teams and two guys teams. They played three rounds. At the end of the third round, they had a girl champion and a boy champion. Then with rousing applause, the boy champion played the girl champion. The girl won!
THUMB WAR RULES
- A thumb war is played by two players using the thumbs to simulate fighting
- The object of the game is to pin the opponent’s thumb, often to a count of three.
- Players can’t move their elbows.
JUST FOR FUN
- Play music in the background (Nazarian suggests “Let’s get ready to rumble“).
- Thumb Wrestling Ring
Competitive matches on thumb wrestling have been held on Long Island and at Lowestoft. The 826 Valencia Foundation holds an annual thumb-wrestling competition, which has been won three times by San Francisco Chronicle book editor Oscar Villalon.
YOUTH LEGEND FEATURE:
Bro. Nazarian came up with an idea to have a classic “Thumb War” tournament, he then contacted Bro. Smith to create an original graphic for his event. The result of that teamwork is the graphic at the top of this post. Student ministry is too tough to do by yourself! Use the support of the capable workers around you. #Designsbymattslid is an affordable solution to your graphic and media needs. I personally endorse both of these incredible student ministry legends.
